Usage manual

Note: This unit has been configured to work in Simple Mode as opposed to Advanced Mode, which means that the display from the iPod™ will not always reflect accurate information on the display screen. The advantage of Simple Mode is that the iPod™ can still be controlled as the clicking wheel of the iPod™ will not be locked.

Simple Mode

The iPod™ can be controlled via the clicking wheel and / or car stereo and steering wheel controls. Please note that information in certain car stereos will not be accurate and will not represent the actual song. Therefore the display information on the car screen is only for reference. The stereo and steering wheel controls make use of relative referencing so absolute references will not display on the car stereo i.e. the controls can be used to move along (up and down) songs and playlists but cannot be used to pinpoint by name a particular playlist or song.

For example: If the current disc (playlist) is on playlist 2 and disc 5 is pressed, the iPod™ will jump to playlist 3 and not playlist 5, yet the display info on the screen of the car radio while show disc 5. If disc 4 is then pressed, the iPod™ will jump to playlist 2 and not playlist 4, and display info on the screen of car radio will show disc 4.

Recommendations for use

It is recommended that the BlueBird interface is used in the following way:

  • The iPod™ cable is positioned so that it extends out of the glove compartment and attaches into the iPod™. The iPod™ can be mounted or placed anywhere on the dashboard.
  • The iPod™ can then be used to select the correct playlist with the stereo and / or steering wheel control used in conjunction with the iPod™ to move between tracks and playlists.
  • The iPod™ will still function adequately if stowed in the glove compartment although the best usability will be achieved when the iPod™ and stereo / steering wheel controls are used in conjunction.

Bluetooth™ Troubleshooting

Please ensure that you allow for a one second delay from the time you press the stereo or steering wheel control answer button until when the call is answered. If the you press the answer button a second time before the call is connected, the call will often disconnect.

If you cannot connect the BlueBird interface to your phone do the following:

• Ensure the BlueBird unit is powered on and paired with your phone.
• Ensure that the Bluetooth™ feature is activated on your phone from your phone's Bluetooth™ menu.
• Ensure that the BlueBird unit is within 10 metres of your phone and there are no obstructions between the BlueBirdunit and your phone e.g. walls or other electronic devices.

• After the iPhone™ is disconnected, re-pairing is required every time as the unit does not support an automatic connection.

• Only one Bluetooth™ device can be connected at any time. The BlueBird unit will be in searching mode if not connected to a Bluetooth™ device. For all pairing devices (excepting the iPhone™), it will be connected automatically.

For new devices, pairing needs to occur first before the device can connect.
